How to block and unblock a PrivatBank card

6 min read

What to do if your card is lost or stolen: how to quickly block a PrivatBank card and unblock it later.

If your card is lost, stolen or you notice suspicious transactions, block it immediately. You can do this in seconds in the app or by phone, and later unblock it just as quickly once the threat is gone. Below are all the methods, what to do in case of fraud, how to dispute a charge and order a reissue.

When to block a card

  • the card is lost or stolen;
  • you see transactions you didn't make;
  • the card details may have reached third parties (phishing, a suspicious site);
  • someone called "from the bank's security service" and asked for your data — block the card at once and call the official 3700;
  • an ATM captured the card.

How to block a card — all methods

  1. In the Privat24 app: open the card → "Settings" or "Security" → "Block card". The fastest way, works 24/7.
  2. By calling the hotline 3700 (free from a mobile) — the operator blocks the card after identification.
  3. At a branch — with your passport.

What to do in case of theft or fraud

  1. Block the card immediately (app or 3700).
  2. Review recent transactions — note the ones you didn't make.
  3. Call 3700 and report the unauthorized charges.
  4. If needed, contact the police (for theft/fraud cases).
  5. Order a card reissue with a new number so the old details no longer work.

How to dispute an unauthorized charge

If money disappeared from your card without your consent, you can file a dispute (chargeback). The sooner you act, the better the chances of recovering the funds. Keep evidence: screenshots of the transactions, correspondence, place and time details. The claim is filed via 3700 or at a branch; the bank investigates per its procedure.

How to unblock a card

If the card is found and you're sure it's safe, unblock it in the same place in Privat24: open the card → "Unblock". If you reissued due to compromised details, the old card stays blocked for good and you use the new one.

Temporary vs full block

Blocking in the app is usually temporary — you can lift it yourself. If the card details are compromised, it's safer not to unblock the old one but to order a reissue: you get a card with a new number and CVV, and the old one stops working.

FAQ

Can I block a card without internet?

Yes, call the hotline 3700 — the card will be blocked by phone after identity confirmation.

Will money be charged while the card is blocked?

A blocked card cannot make new transactions. Recurring payments linked to it should be moved to another card.

Will I get the money back if it was stolen from the card?

If the transaction is unauthorized, the bank reviews a dispute. The outcome depends on the circumstances and how quickly you act, so block the card and report immediately.

How much does a reissue cost?

It depends on the card and the reason; for some products it's free. Check in the app or on 3700.

The interface and terms may change — see current details in the Privat24 app or on the bank's website. Hotline — 3700. Never share your CVV, passwords or SMS codes with anyone.
