monobank cashback: how to choose categories and get it
How monobank cashback works, how to choose monthly categories, where the money goes and how to use it.
Cashback is one of the main perks of the monobank Black card: part of your spending comes back as money to a separate account. Let's look at how it works, how to choose favourable categories each month, how much you can get and how to use what you've accumulated.
How monobank cashback works
Purchases with monobank cards earn cashback — money returns to a separate cashback account in the app. In selected categories the cashback is higher (up to 20%), while other purchases get a base rate. The higher-cashback categories change every month, and you choose which ones are best for you.
How to choose cashback categories
- Open the monobank app and go to the cashback section.
- For the new month the app offers a list of categories (e.g. fuel, cafes, pharmacies, entertainment).
- Choose the categories where you spend the most — that's where the higher cashback applies.
- The chosen categories apply for the current month; next month you can change your choice.
Where cashback is credited
Cashback accumulates in a separate cashback account (the cashback balance) in the app. These funds are not mixed with your card's main balance — you see them separately and can use them whenever you want.
How much you can get: limits
Cashback has limits — usually a capped maximum cashback amount per month (overall and/or per category). So even with high spending, cashback isn't unlimited. Check current rates and limits in the app — they can change monthly.
How to use accumulated cashback
- transfer cashback to your card's main account and spend it as regular money;
- pay part of a purchase with cashback;
- sometimes — donate it to charity via the app.
FAQ
Do all purchases get 20% cashback?
No. Up to 20% is the higher rate in the selected monthly categories. Other purchases get a base, lower rate.
Can I change categories monthly?
Yes, the category choice refreshes every month — pick the ones where you spend more.
Why is my cashback less than expected?
Because of caps on the cashback amount and because the higher rate applies only in selected categories. Some operations (e.g. transfers, cash withdrawals) don't earn cashback.
Does cashback expire?
Check the accrual and usage terms in the app — it's better to use what you've accumulated without leaving it for too long.
