Ukraine's economy continues to grow: GDP increased by 0.8% in June

Economic growth has slowed down

According to IED estimates, second quarter of 2026 the real GDP of Ukraine increased by 0.6% compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, experts revised the previous estimate for May — the growth of the economy amounted to no 0.9%, as previously reported, and 0.3%.

In June, the decline was recorded in the energy and transport sectors.

Electricity production and gas distribution decreased by 7% due to low water levels in reservoirs, a repair campaign following the Russian attacks, and a sharp increase in electricity consumption at the end of the month due to the heat.

In the transport industry, the decline slowed to 5%, however, the sector continues to suffer from Russian attacks on postal terminals, ports and civilian vessels.

Agriculture, trade and industry show positive dynamics

The best results were shown in June agriculture, where the added value increased by 9%. This was facilitated by the early start of the harvest and the inclusion of crop production indicators in the statistics.

In the field trade real value added increased by 5% thanks to the recovery of consumer demand. At the same time, the retail turnover in May accelerated the growth rate to 10.9%.

Positive dynamics were also recorded in industry. The mining industry grew by 4%, and processing — on 2.3%, which became possible due to the improvement of access of enterprises to electricity.

What is known

It was previously reported that Ukrainian heavy industry needs systematic state support and international advocacy, otherwise the country risks losing one of the key drivers of exports and post-war economic recovery.

Also, in the first five months of 2026, Ukraine received 1.7 billion dollars from the export of metals that on 7% less, than a year earlier, and more than three times lower than the pre-war level. In addition, the International Monetary Fund predicts that 2027–2031 years Ukraine will enter the top five European countries with the highest rates of economic growth.
