Reserves increased by more than 12% for the month
According to preliminary data of the National Bank of Ukraine, as of July 1, 2026, the country's international reserves amounted to 51.3 billion US dollars.
According to the results of June, their volume increased by 12.1%, which was a significant recovery after the reduction of reserves in the previous two months.
The main source of growth was international financial aid
The NBU notes that the positive dynamics were made possible thanks to significant currency receipts from international partners.
During June, more than 11.3 billion dollars were transferred to the foreign currency accounts of the government at the National Bank. Of this amount, 6.82 billion dollars was provided by the European Union, another 4.5 billion dollars was received by Ukraine through World Bank accounts.
Part of the EU aid was not included in the reserves
Separately, Ukraine received another 4.4 billion dollars from the European Union within the first defense tranche of the Ukraine Support Loan program.
However, these funds were not included in the international reserves, as they have a specific purpose and can be used only under certain conditions.
The NBU continued currency interventions and debt payments
During June, the National Bank sold 5.15 billion dollars on the interbank foreign exchange market to maintain the stability of the foreign exchange market.
In addition, Ukraine allocated 269.7 million dollars to service and repayment of the state debt in foreign currency, and also paid 171.5 million dollars to the International Monetary Fund.
The current level of reserves is sufficient to cover imports
According to the National Bank's assessment, the available volume of international reserves provides financing for 5.2 months of future imports.
This level is considered sufficient for maintaining the macro-financial stability of the country and preserving the stability of the foreign exchange market in wartime conditions.
After two months of contraction, reserves have returned to growth
In May 2026, international reserves of Ukraine decreased by 5.2% and amounted to 45.7 billion dollars. A month earlier, they also decreased - to 48.2 billion dollars.
Growth in June indicates the recovery of positive dynamics thanks to active international financial support and stable inflow of foreign exchange resources.
