Updated: July 20, 2026. Limits are set by NBU regulations for the period of martial law and are periodically relaxed - check the NBU website or your bank before large operations.
The main figures of 2026: cash currency can be purchased without an official limit, cashless online - up to 50,000 UAH per month in one bank, withdrawals from accounts - up to 100,000 UAH equivalent per day, and up to 10,000 EUR equivalent per person can be taken abroad without declaration. Below are all current limits for four life situations: purchases, cash withdrawals, payments abroad and crossing the border with cash.
Buying currency: as much as possible
| Operation | Limit |
|---|---|
| Cash currency at the cash desk or money changer | No official limit (limited by cashier availability) |
| Cashless currency online (to a currency account) | UAH 50,000/month in one bank |
| Cashless with placement on deposit from 3 months | UAH 200,000/month |
| Passport operations only | Up to UAH 400,000 equivalent. (above - documents on the source of funds) |
The UAH 50,000 limit applies to a bank, not to a person: having accounts in two or three banks, the amount can be legally multiplied. Where it is more profitable to buy, taking into account these limits, was analyzed in a comparison of exchange channels.
Withdrawal of cash from accounts
| Operation | Limit |
|---|---|
| Withdrawal from an account in Ukraine (hryvnia or currency) | UAH 100,000/day equivalent from one account |
| Withdrawal from a hryvnia card abroad | 12.5 thousand UAH/week in equivalent |
| Withdrawal from a currency card abroad | Within the general limits and tariffs of the bank |
The UAH 100,000 limit is calculated for each account separately. Banks additionally set their own one-time transaction limits at ATMs (typically UAH 25,000–40,000) — these are technical restrictions, not a ban on withdrawing the daily amount in several transactions. To issue large amounts of currency, cash desks usually ask for an order one to three days in advance.
Settlements and transfers abroad
The strictest part of the restrictions. Payment by Ukrainian card for goods and services abroad or in foreign online stores — without limits from the NBU (banks may have their own). But direct money transfers abroad for individuals remain significantly limited: P2P transfers from a Ukrainian card to a foreign one have been prohibited since 2022, and SWIFT transfers from one's own accounts are allowed only for certain purposes (education, treatment, alimony, etc. - the list of exceptions is determined by NBU Resolution No. 18, and banks check documents on a case-by-case basis). The standard legal way to have money abroad is a currency card of a Ukrainian bank: calculations are not limited with it, and cash can be withdrawn within the limits of tariffs.
