Ukraine introduced sanctions against 13 vessels and 28 companies for illegal export of grain

Who was sanctioned

The restrictions apply to all the main participants in the illegal Ukrainian grain supply chain. The sanctions list includes:

• - 13 sea vessels, which were used to transport agricultural products;

• - 11 citizens of Russia — ship owners and their captains;

• - 28 legal entities, involved in transportation and logistics operations.

Out of 13 vessels 8 march under the flag of Russia, three more - under the flag of Panama, one each - Belize and St. Kitts and Nevis.

Among the ships that came under the restrictions, — Volgo-Balt 205, Asomatos, Panormitis, Don, Falcon S and Greendale.

Sanctions cover the entire chain

Ukraine applied restrictions not only to direct carriers. The sanction package covers company and ship owners, logistics structures and captains, which provide physical transportation of Ukrainian agricultural products.

This approach should make it more difficult to use sea logistics for the export of grain from the occupied territories and its subsequent sale on international markets.

Ukraine is counting on the actions of its partners

The Ukrainian side plans to transfer to foreign partners information about companies, ships and people included in the sanctions list.

In Kyiv, it is expected that other states will also apply restrictions in their jurisdictions, in particular, they will not allow products illegally exported from the occupied Ukrainian territories to their own markets.

Thus, Ukraine seeks to block not only the very possibility of illegal export of grain, but also further sale and legalization of these products abroad.

Sanction pressure continues

The new package was Ukraine's next step towards companies and structures that help Russia circumvent international restrictions.

Earlier, on August 4, Zelenskyi also implemented the NSDC decision on sanctions against companies and individuals that provide the Russian military-industrial complex with equipment, technologies and components.
