When the ticket will be cheaper
The new system provides dynamic pricing for SV cars and the first class of "Intercity" trains.
The base price will apply if the ticket is purchased 20-90 days before the trip.
Then the cost will gradually increase:
That is, for the passenger, the rule is simple: the earlier you buy a ticket, the lower its base price will be.
The price will depend on the day of the week
Separate coefficients are set depending on the day of the trip.
They will be the most profitable Tuesday and Wednesday — a 10% discount is provided on these days.
Instead, in Thursday and Saturday an increase of approximately 10% will apply.
They can become the most expensive Friday and Sunday — depending on the category of carriage and specific train, the price may be 10–20% higher.
What will happen if there are few seats left on the train?
In addition to the date of purchase and day of the week will be taken into account occupancy of a specific flight.
If there are few free seats left on a popular train, Ukrzaliznytsia will be able to adjust the price additionally.
At the same time, the carrier will have the opportunity to change the established coefficients in accordance with the actual or forecasted demand on a certain direction.
So, the same trip can cost differently depending on when exactly the passenger buys the ticket.
A discount was left for "Intercity+".
For "Intercity+" trains, except for the first class, it is provided 10% discount when issuing round-trip tickets at the same time.
This will allow passengers to save if they plan a trip in both directions at once.
Why change the system
The new model actually brings the pricing of part of rail transport closer to the system that has long been used in air transport.
Its logic is that the price varied depending on demand. For passengers, this means the opportunity to buy a cheaper ticket in advance, but at the same time the risk of paying more if the travel decision is made at the last moment.
The changes were approved by the order of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, which updates the rules for calculating the cost of railway tickets.
Passenger traffic is increasing
Demand for railway transportation in Ukraine continues to be high. In July 2026, "Ukrzaliznytsia" transported 2.8 million passengers, which is about 100,000 more than in the same period last year.
The offer also increased on international routes: last year, the number of train tickets to EU countries increased to 8 thousand per day thanks to the launch of new routes.
