Hryvnia business loans in July increased by 33% compared to last year

Hryvnia lending in Ukraine continues to grow, despite difficult business conditions and war risks. In July 2026, net hryvnia business loans in solvent banks increased by almost 33% compared to the same month last year. At the same time, lending to the population increased by more than 36%, which indicates the continued activity of the banking sector.

Business more actively attracts hryvnia loans

According to operational data of the National Bank of Ukraine, in July the net amount of hryvnia loans to enterprises continued to grow. The NBU emphasizes that in order to assess the real dynamics, it is worth focusing on net loans, as the gross lending rate is distorted by the large-scale write-off of problematic debt by state banks at the end of 2025.

Because of this, the gross indicator throughout 2026 may show weaker dynamics than the actual credit activity of banks.

The regulator notes that banks did not reduce lending, on the contrary, they continued to increase the volume of business financing.

Loans to the public are also growing

Positive dynamics are observed not only in the corporate segment. In July, the volume of hryvnia loans to the population increased by more than 36% in annual terms.

This indicates a gradual recovery of demand for bank financing from households. At the same time, credit activity remains dependent on the cost of loans, incomes of the population and the general economic situation.

Client funds in banks continue to grow

At the same time, banks record an increase in the amount of clients' funds in their accounts.

In July, hryvnia business funds were in the banking system more than 21% higherthan a year earlier. In individuals, the increase was close to 19%.

Thus, the banking system simultaneously demonstrates the growth of both the resource base and lending. For the financial sector, this creates additional opportunities to support enterprises and the population with loans.

NBU loosens conditions for lending to businesses

The increase in crediting is taking place against the background of NBU measures aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and the agricultural sector. In early August, the regulator introduced credit reductions, which should facilitate business access to financing in the face of increased Russian attacks.

The state program continues to play a special role "Available loans 5-7-9%". From the beginning of 2026, as of August, approx 6.6 thousand agricultural enterprises attracted under this program almost UAH 44.63 billion.

The share of problem loans has reached a minimum for almost 17 years

Another positive signal for the banking sector was the further reduction of non-performing loans.

As of July 1, 2026 the share of NPLs in the banking sector decreased to 12.5%. Since the beginning of the year, the indicator decreased by 1.5 percentage points, and compared to March 2022, by 14.1 percentage points.

It the lowest level of the share of problem debt in almost 17 years — since October 2009.

The growth of lending together with the reduction of problem debt indicates the gradual strengthening of the banking system. At the same time, the value of resources, the financial condition of enterprises and the security situation in the country remain key for the further expansion of lending.
