Cashless payments in Ukraine have reached 96%: where do Ukrainians spend money from cards

Cashless payments continue to grow

In January-June, the Ukrainians spent 4.71 billion non-cash transactions for 2.59 trillion hryvnias.

Compared to the first half of 2025, the number of such operations increased by 7.5%, and their total amount is at 16.6%.

At the same time, non-cash payments accounted for 96% of all transactions by number and 67% of the amount. A year earlier, these figures were lower — 95.3% and 65.3%, respectively.

What is money spent on most often?

The main part of card payments is for ordinary purchases in shops and institutions of the service sector.

It fell on the trade and service network 75.4% of non-cash transactions by number and 53.1% by amount.

The average check for purchases in stores increased from 342 to 387 hryvnias.

Transfers between cards remain another big direction. They formed 25% of the total amount of non-cash transactions and 6.9% by quantity. The average amount of such transfer increased to UAH 1,980 against UAH 1,835 a year earlier.

Online purchases and payment of services accounted for 16.6% by amount and 13.7% by quantity. The average check on the Internet has grown to 666 hryvnias.

Ukrainians pay with their smartphones more and more often

In parallel, the payment infrastructure is expanding.

The number of active POS terminals increased by 4.3% — up to 582.5 thousand. The number of outlets where you can pay by card increased by 13.9% to 699.3 thousand.

The network of ATMs has hardly changed and was 15.8 thousand devices.

The total number of payment cards in Ukraine has reached 153.2 million, having increased by 3% since the beginning of the year. At the same time, there were 61.1 million active cards in June.

Almost all purchases in stores can be paid for contactless

More than half of the active cards — 56.8% are contactless. The number of tokenized cards has increased to 21.1 million, that is, approximately every third active card already has a token.

The situation in stores is especially indicative: almost 99% of non-cash payments are made via NFC or other contactless technologies.

Thus, the Ukrainian payment market continues to rapidly move from cash not only to cards, but also to payments with smartphones and other digital devices.
