The court suspended the financing of the advertising campaign
Federal Judge Alihan ordered U.S. officials to immediately stop preparing and airing ads that the administration planned to target $20 million from taxpayer funds. The restriction involves taking the necessary measures to stop the distribution of advertising materials.
According to Bloomberg, the injunction will be in effect for at least the next two weeks. This is another court decision that limits the use of budget funds for the Trump administration's advertising campaign.
Democrats consider advertising political propaganda
The basis for the review was a lawsuit by the National Committee of the Democratic Party of the USA. The plaintiffs argue that the ad effectively supports Republicans in the race for congressional seats ahead of the midterm elections.
According to Democrats, the use of public funding for such advertising gives Republican candidates an additional advantage, because it allows them to direct their own funds to other campaign needs.
The judge agreed that the plaintiffs have good grounds for challenging the administration's actions. At the same time, the final legal assessment will depend on the further consideration of the case.
