How a business can get currency for a business trip
Enterprises, individual entrepreneurs and non-resident representative offices have two ways to provide employees with cash currency for foreign business trips: to withdraw funds from their own current account or to purchase foreign currency from a bank upon a corresponding application.
Such a right is provided for in Clause 42 of the Regulation on operations with currency values, approved by the resolution of the NBU Board dated January 2, 2019 No. 2.
An application for the purchase of currency can be issued in any form, but its mandatory details are determined by the contract between the client and the bank.
What documents can the bank require?
According to the currency rules of the NBU, enterprises can buy foreign currency without supporting documents within the limits 100 thousand euros per day.
Водночас банк має право запросити додаткові обґрунтування операції. In particular, it can be an order to send an employee on a business trip or an estimate of travel expenses. The client is obliged to provide the requested documents within the period determined by the financial institution.
What are the restrictions on cash withdrawals?
From August 11, 2026, there is a restriction on the withdrawal of cash foreign currency from accounts - no more 200 thousand hryvnias equivalent per day.
In addition, according to the explanations of the banks, the purchase of foreign currency for business trips is allowed only to the account to which the corporate payment card is issued. Daily payments to employees are limited to an amount 80 euros per day.
What are the penalties for violating currency rules
For non-compliance with the requirements of currency legislation, the State Tax Service may apply a financial sanction in the amount of 25% of the transaction amount.
If a similar violation is repeated within a year, the amount of the fine increases to 50% of the transaction amount. Therefore, it is important for enterprises to control the procedure for acquiring, issuing and using cash currency during foreign business trips.
Therefore, businesses have several legitimate ways to provide employees with currency for business trips, but must consider daily limits, bank document requirements, and rules for using corporate accounts.
