What will the coin look like?
A portrait of Donald Trump, as well as inscriptions, will be placed on the obverse "Liberty" ("Freedom"), "In God We Trust" ("In God we trust") and dates 1776–2026, symbolizing the 250th anniversary of US independence.
The reverse will feature the Great Seal of the United States, the coin's denomination, and a number 250.
Despite the golden color, the coin will not be made of gold. It will be minted at the Philadelphia Mint from an alloy of base metals.

Why was the design changed?
The legal basis for the issue of the anniversary coin was laid by a law passed in 2020, which allowed the US Treasury Department to issue a special one-dollar coin for the country's 250th anniversary.
The first version of the design was presented in the fall of 2025. Then they planned to place Donald Trump with a raised fist and an inscription on the reverse "Fight! Fight! Fight!", but later this idea was abandoned. The final version involves the use of the Great Seal of the United States, which made the design more traditional.
The commemorative coin is expected to enter circulation in the fall of 2026. According to the information The Wall Street Journal, it will become part of the official program of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States.
