Bitcoin is back above $68,000
The cryptocurrency market received a new boost after the rapid growth of Bitcoin. During the day, the most popular cryptocurrency rose in price by approx 6%, punching the mark $68 thousand
This is an important move for the market, as before this Bitcoin was under pressure and showed much weaker dynamics.
The sharp rise became especially painful for traders who were counting on a further drop in the exchange rate.
Traders lost $1.4 billion on short positions
The rapid growth of the cryptocurrency forced short sellers to urgently close their positions.
When the rate moves against such traders, exchanges can automatically liquidate their trades if the collateral is insufficient to cover losses.
As a result, only for in four hours, the volume of forcibly closed positions reached approximately $1.4 billion.
This further strengthened the bullish movement, with the liquidation of short positions forcing traders to buy the asset to cover loss-making downside bets.
It was not only Bitcoin that rose in price
The positive dynamics spread to other major cryptocurrencies.
Ethereum (ETH) added about a day 8.44% and went up to $2,084. This was Ethereum's highest level since late May.
Solana (SOL) increased in price by approximately 7%, having reached $82.
Thus, the upward movement covered several major cryptoassets at once, which may indicate a general improvement in market sentiment, and not just a local jump in Bitcoin.
The market is waiting for signals from Washington
The new momentum for cryptocurrencies coincided with the scheduled meeting of the US President Donald Trump with heads of cryptocurrency companies and representatives of American financial regulators.
Representatives must participate in the negotiations SEC and CFTC, as well as heads of the largest American stock exchanges.
For the crypto market, such meetings are of particular importance, as participants await signals about the future policy of the United States in relation to digital assets.
Positive statements from the US authorities can support demand for cryptocurrencies, while a tougher regulatory stance can quickly change investor sentiment.
Bitcoin experienced several sharp declines in 2026
The current jump comes after a rather volatile period.
In July 2026, Bitcoin fell to $59,548, and during trading the price fell to approximately $59,024. This was the lowest level since October 2024.
One of the reasons for the pressure on the cryptocurrency was the expectation of an increase in interest rates in the United States and investor fears about the strategy of one of the largest corporate buyers of Bitcoin.
Before that, in May, the cryptocurrency also experienced strong fluctuations. At first, its price dropped below $79 thousand, after which Bitcoin topped again $80 thousand
Such dynamics show how quickly the balance of supply and demand in the cryptocurrency market is changing now.
Why the current growth is important
The jump above $68,000 is significant not only because of the price.
First, the sharp rise showed that the market had accumulated a significant number of bear bets. Their liquidation created additional demand.
Second, the simultaneous growth of Ethereum and Solana shows that a broader improvement in sentiment among crypto-asset buyers.
Third, investors' attention remains focused on US politics, as Washington's decision to regulate cryptocurrencies can have a significant impact on the entire market.
High volatility has not disappeared
Despite the strong recovery, it is still too early to talk about a stable upward trend.
Bitcoin remains a high-risk asset whose price can change by thousands of dollars in a short period of time. July's drop to nearly $59,000 showed how quickly positive sentiment can change.
Therefore, the current movement above $68,000 should be considered primarily as strong market momentum, and its further development will depend on Fed policy, US macroeconomic data, regulatory decisions and demand from institutional investors.
